Release of Windows 11 Update KB5060829: Incorporating 38 Enhancements and Fixes
Microsoft has released the KB5060829 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2, introducing a total of 38 enhancements, including notable improvements to the taskbar and a new PC-to-PC migration experience.
The KB5060829 update is an optional, non-security preview update designed to provide additional enhancements at the end of each month. This update allows IT administrators to test various bug fixes, improvements, and new features that will be integrated into the forthcoming monthly Patch Tuesday updates. Unlike standard cumulative updates released on Patch Tuesdays, these monthly preview updates do not contain security updates.
One significant feature introduced with KB5060829 is the PC-to-PC migration experience, which streamlines the process for users transferring files and settings from older computers to new systems during the setup phase. Although this functionality is not yet available during initial PC setup, it will be rolled out in a future update.
Further refinements to the taskbar enable the accommodation of more application icons when screen space is limited. Users can adjust this setting by navigating to Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors > Show smaller taskbar buttons.
To install KB5060829, users should access Settings, select Windows Update, and click on ‘Check for Updates.’ As this is an optional update, users will need to manually initiate the installation by selecting the ‘Download and install’ option. Additionally, it is possible to acquire the update directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Once installed, the KB5060829 preview update will elevate systems to build 26100.4484.
The June 2025 preview update comprises a variety of important fixes and improvements, including:
- Scripting: Resolved an issue where scripts executing on a remote Server Message Block (SMB) share could experience prolonged delays if the share was hosted on older Windows Server versions, such as Windows Server 2019.
- Full-Screen Applications: Fixed an issue where pressing ALT + Tab to exit a full-screen game could cause other applications, like Windows Terminal, to become unresponsive.
- Explorer Functionality: Addressed a situation where
Explorer.exe
might unexpectedly cease functioning when a window is dragged with window snapping activated. - Windows Hello: Fixed an issue that interfered with the automatic renewal of expiring certificates in Windows Hello for Business.
- Storage Optimization: Resolved flaws preventing the complete removal of unused language packs and Feature on Demand packages, which resulted in unnecessary disk space usage and lengthened Windows Update installation processes.
- Windows Search: Improved responsiveness of Windows Search, which previously could take over 10 seconds to load.
Microsoft has identified a known issue stemming from this update that affects CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text, which may appear blurry when displayed at 96 DPI (100% scaling) within Chromium-based browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
Windows 11 24H2 is in broad deployment and is available to all users through Windows Update. Furthermore, Microsoft is extending the Windows 11 2024 Update to all eligible Windows 10 22H2 systems.
