ChatGPT to Implement Meeting Recording, Transcription, and Summarization Features
OpenAI is poised to enhance its ChatGPT platform with a new feature that enables recording, transcribing, and summarizing live meetings, thereby positioning itself in direct competition with Microsoft Teams’ Copilot integration.
Currently, while ChatGPT allows for integration with third-party services, it lacks the ability to summarize live meetings or produce AI-generated transcripts in real-time. However, recent findings shared by an X user known as M1Astra reveal that the mobile app’s code includes references to a “Record” feature, which will allow users to pause, resume, and convert audio to text during meetings.
Once activated, this feature will offer functionalities such as “drag to talk,” detailed reporting capabilities, and the prompt generation of meeting summaries. Additionally, ChatGPT will require access to microphone and system audio, as well as remind users to obtain consent prior to recording.
This development indicates that OpenAI is strategically aiming to rival Microsoft Teams’ offerings. Notably, the recording feature appears to function as an overlay within the ChatGPT environment, capturing audio from the microphone or system sounds, rather than integrating directly with existing virtual meeting applications like Teams or Zoom.
As this feature is rolled out, it is expected to significantly enhance the productivity of users by automating the documentation of meeting discussions and outcomes.
