Microsoft Initiates Investigation into OneDrive Search Functionality Issue
Microsoft is currently examining a significant issue in OneDrive that is affecting file search functionality. Some users are experiencing blank search results or no results at all, despite knowing that their uploaded files are present.
A recent update to Microsoft’s support document highlights that this bug is impacting users across multiple platforms, including Windows, Android, iOS, and the web.
The company stated, “Some OneDrive personal account users may notice that search results appear blank or do not return files that are known to exist. While the files are still accessible, they do not show up in the search results.” Microsoft is actively working to identify the root cause and has confirmed that this issue seems to affect a limited subset of users. Support teams are collaborating to assess the broader implications of the problem.
As Microsoft seeks to uncover the cause of the search issues, they have noted the absence of a known workaround for those experiencing difficulties, and there is currently no estimated timeline for a resolution.
In their communication, Microsoft expressed understanding of the frustration this issue may cause and assured users of their commitment to resolving it promptly. “We recognize the impact this issue is having and want to reassure you that we are working with urgency to address it as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve it,” they added.
In addition to this issue, Microsoft is exploring another problem impacting iOS users where slow-motion videos uploaded to OneDrive are playing at normal speed. The company recommends that affected users share videos directly from their iOS gallery to OneDrive, rather than using manual uploads or the automatic Camera Roll backup feature.
Earlier in the year, Microsoft resolved another identified issue that caused freezing problems within macOS applications when users opened or saved files in OneDrive. This specific bug affected devices running on the macOS 15 Sequoia operating system.
