Microsoft Teams to Implement Screen Capture Restrictions During Meetings

Microsoft is in the process of developing a new feature for Teams aimed at enhancing content security during meetings by preventing users from capturing screenshots of sensitive information.

Participants joining from unsupported platforms will automatically be placed in audio-only mode to ensure the protection of shared content. This feature is expected to be rolled out to Android, desktop, iOS, and web users worldwide in July 2025.

To mitigate unauthorized screen captures in meetings, the Prevent Screen Capture feature will activate a visual block, rendering the meeting window black for any user attempting to take a screenshot. Microsoft outlines that this functionality will be accessible on both Teams desktop applications (Windows and Mac) and mobile applications (iOS and Android).

It is important to note that even with the implementation of this feature, sensitive information exchanged in Teams meetings may still be vulnerable to capture through external means, such as photographing the screen.

In a parallel development, Meta recently introduced a feature called “Advanced Chat Privacy” for WhatsApp, which aims to safeguard sensitive information shared in private chats and group conversations by preventing users from saving shared media and exporting chat content.

Moreover, Microsoft is preparing to implement additional updates into Teams, including permission management for town hall screens in Teams Rooms on Windows, the introduction of interactive BizChat/Copilot Studio agents for meetings and one-on-one calls, and a Copilot feature designed to generate audio summaries of transcribed meetings, scheduled for June.

The upcoming Copilot tool will also provide users the ability to select speakers, adjust tone, and customize the duration of the audio overviews generated from transcriptions.

In a previous initiative, Microsoft reminded Microsoft 365 administrators about the impending rollout of the Teams Chat brand impersonation protection feature, which alerts users to potential phishing attempts relating to organizations with external Teams access activated, expected to be generalized for all customers by mid-February 2025.

During the recent Enterprise Connect conference, Microsoft announced that the Teams platform now enjoys over 320 million monthly active users across 181 markets and in 44 languages.
