WestJet, the second-largest airline in Canada, is currently investigating a cyberattack that has resulted in the disruption of several internal systems. The company has confirmed the incident, which has affected both internal applications and access to the WestJet mobile app.

According to a security advisory issued by WestJet, the airline is taking proactive measures by deploying specialized internal teams to collaborate with law enforcement and Transport Canada. This cooperation aims to thoroughly investigate the breach and mitigate its impacts.

The advisory emphasizes WestJet’s commitment to maintaining operational safety while safeguarding sensitive data and personal information belonging to both customers and employees. The airline has expressed regret over the disruptions experienced by travelers as a result of the incident.

The cyberattack has notably restricted user access to the WestJet website and mobile app; however, these services have since been restored. An update released on Saturday morning indicated that while the airline’s operations are continuing safely, the breach had affected access to some software and services.

It remains uncertain whether the disruption to WestJet’s systems was due to a ransomware attack that encrypted critical data or if the systems were intentionally taken offline to prevent further infiltration.

Efforts to clarify details surrounding the breach are ongoing, but responses to inquiries made to WestJet regarding the specifics of the incident have not yet been received.
